BSNL Prepaid Sims Continue Working Till 20th April

Crores of prepaid SIM card users of BSNL have received a gift from Ministry of Telecommunications. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has instructed to keep BSNL prepaid SIM card users’ numbers operational till 20 April without any recharge. Not only this, a balance of Rs 10 will also be given as incentive to these users with immediate effect.

Telecom Minister has announced this due to a nationwide lock down due to coronavirus. This order will be applicable for prepaid users of every telecom circle of BSNL. The Union Minister said in his statement that this decision has been taken by the government to keep people connected to their families till April 20.

Earlier, other public telecom companies were also instructed by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority) to increase the validity of prepaid users whose validity is expiring during lock down. TRAI asked Jio, Vodafone-Idea and Airtel to ensure that users should continue to receive service uninterrupted during the 21-day lock-down. TRAI has asked all the telecom companies to take appropriate steps for this on priority basis.

According to the PTI report, TRAI in its statement has instructed all the telecom companies that users should not face any kind of connectivity during lock down. The authority said that telecom is the essential service of the people and said that people should not face any problem due to this. Telecom companies took necessary steps for this. However, there has been no official reply from any telecom operator following this directive from TRAI.
